You don’t have to spend a lot of money to stay in New York City. Highbridge House is a youth hostel hotel that offers students and budget travelers a comfortable room in a convenient location. New York Yankees. Built in 1923, Yankee Stadium is where the American League New York Yankees play baseball. Yankee Stadium is located at 161st Street and River Avenue in the New York City borough of the Bronx, which is a short subway ride from Highbridge House. On July 15, 2008, the Major League Baseball All-Star Game will be played at Yankee Stadium. This is the last year for this historic landmark that was originally known as the “House That Ruth Built.” Currently, a new Yankee Stadium is being built right next door in Macombs Dam Park and will be ready in 2009. New York Mets. The National League New York Mets (short for Metropolitans) began playing baseball in 1962. They played their first two seasons at the Polo Grounds in Manhattan, the former home of the New York Giants (who now play in San Francisco). In 1964, the Mets moved to Shea Stadium on Roosevelt Avenue in New York City borough of Queens. 2008 is the last year they will play in this 45-year-old stadium. Beginning in 2009, they will play their home games at Citi Field, which is being built not far from Shea Stadium and will be easy to get to from Highbridge House via subway. New York Knicks. Representing New York in the National Basketball Association, the New York Knicks (short for Knickerbockers) began playing in 1946. They play their home games at Madison Square Garden, which is located on 7th Avenue between 31st and 33rd Streets in Manhattan. It is a short subway ride from Highbridge House.
